Compulsory inheritance share calculator
Enter the value of the inherited property, the number of intestate heirs in the relevant class, and the number of people claiming a compulsory share. For inheritance disputes in Kyiv and the region, this is only a preliminary calculation and does not confirm a person’s right to a share.

Estimated calculation under Article 1241 of the Civil Code of Ukraine
Article 1241 sets the basic rule: each claimant’s compulsory share is half of their statutory share.
A preliminary market valuation of the property may be used, taking confirmed liabilities into account.
This figure is used for the basic statutory share of one person in the relevant inheritance order.
The tool does not verify the applicants’ legal status and calculates the result only from the number entered.

Calculation logic for the mandatory share
An entitlement to a compulsory share means that, where the grounds exist, a person inherits half of the share they would have received by law, regardless of the will’s contents.
The calculation therefore has two steps: determine the statutory share in the relevant inheritance order, then apply the 1/2 coefficient. The tool does not resolve disputes about the heirs or evidence.
Calculation methodology
Methodology for calculating the mandatory share
- We identify the estimated value of inherited property entered by the user in the calculator.
- We divide it by the number of heirs in the relevant statutory order.
- Use half of the statutory share for each person claiming a compulsory share.
- We separately warn that the calculator does not determine an individual’s entitlement or any possible reduction of the share.
Calculation example
Estimated inheritance value in Kyiv Region: UAH 1,200,000; 3 heirs in the relevant class, one claiming a compulsory share.
- Inheritance value: UAH 1,200,000
- Heirs by law: 3
- Applicants entitled to a compulsory share: 1
One person’s statutory share: UAH 400,000; compulsory share: UAH 200,000.
The exact distribution depends on the estate, will, debts, and the particular person’s entitlement.

Frequently asked questions
Does this calculator confirm eligibility for a compulsory share?
No. It shows only arithmetic. An individual’s right is determined by law and the documents in the inheritance case.
Why is the compulsory share exactly 1/2?
Because Article 1241 of the Civil Code of Ukraine expressly sets this amount: half the share that would pass under intestate succession.
Can the exact calculated amount always be recovered?
Not always. The court may reduce the compulsory share; the composition of the estate, debts, the positions of other heirs, and the evidence also matter.
Must the will be considered when there is a compulsory share?
Yes, the will’s contents and the estate still matter for the final distribution. The calculator does not replace legal review of the documents.
