Preliminary deadline calculation

The calculation is based on the general six-month period from the date the inheritance opened and does not replace notarial review.

Most often, this is the date of death shown on the certificate. A court decision must be checked if the person was declared dead.

Estimated result

the period is estimated to still be running
Last day to file the application23 November 2026

Method: 23 May 2026 + 6 months = 23 November 2026

Deadline status: the period is estimated to still be running: in 31 days

The result is an estimate. Special rules, living with the deceased, another heir’s renunciation or failure to accept the inheritance, inheritance transmission, and renewal of a missed deadline require review by a lawyer or notary.

What exactly the calculator shows

The Civil Code of Ukraine links the opening of an inheritance to a person’s death or declaration of death. The general period for accepting an inheritance is six months from the date it opens.

This tool does not establish inheritance rights or resolve a missed time limit. It provides quick calendar guidance before contacting a notary or lawyer.

Methodology

Calculation methodology

Methodology for determining the inheritance period

  1. Use the date of death or another confirmed date the inheritance opened.
  2. Add six calendar months under the general rule of the Civil Code of Ukraine.
  3. If the final month has no corresponding day, use the last day of the month.
  4. We do not conclude that an inheritance was accepted in fact or that a time limit should be renewed without documents.
Example

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I rely on this date as final?

No. The calculator provides a calendar estimate under the general rule. The final conclusion depends on the documents, the heirs, and notarial practice.

What should be entered if there is a court decision declaring a person deceased?

The date on which a person is declared deceased must be checked. It may be specified in the court decision, so entering the decision date alone may not be enough.

What to do after missing the time limit

First check whether there are heirs who accepted the inheritance and whether their written consent is possible. If not, a claim for an additional period may be needed.

Is an application required if I lived with the deceased?

This situation requires separate review. Permanent residence may affect acceptance of an inheritance but must be proven with appropriate evidence.

Which notary should I contact in Kyiv?

The choice of notary depends on where the inheritance opened and the current rules for handling inheritance matters. Before applying, check the documents showing the last place of residence and the property.
