Contractual penalty
Contractual penalty calculator
Enter the principal debt, first day overdue, calculation date, contractual penalty rate and, if needed, the maximum penalty amount. The calculator shows a preliminary penalty and total debt; for disputes in Kyiv and Kyiv Region, check the result against the documents and legal limits.

Estimated penalty calculation
The tool uses only the rate from the agreement that you enter and does not insert a universal percentage.
Enter the principal amount excluding interest and penalties already accrued.
Most often, this is the day after the payment due date, but check the contract.

Enter the rate from the contract. Below, choose whether it is a daily, monthly or annual rate.
If the agreement sets a rate other than per day, the calculator converts it arithmetically to a daily rate: month = 30 days, year = 365 days.
Enable this if the agreement caps the penalty at a specific amount.

What this tool calculates
A penalty is a form of liability for late performance of a monetary obligation. The specific rate is essential for a contractual penalty, so the calculator asks you to enter it manually.
The calculation does not analyze contractual exceptions: the penalty cap, when accrual stops, partial payments, a rate change, or a special legal regime governing the contract.
Calculation methodology
Methodology for calculating contractual late-payment penalties
- Use the principal debt and overdue period entered by the user in the calculator.
- Use the penalty rate only from the contract or another document; do not insert one automatically.
- If the rate is monthly or annual, we convert it to a daily value using an arithmetic model.
- Apply the user-entered cap if the contract or law limits the penalty amount.
Calculation example
The Kyiv contract provides for a 0.1% daily penalty, the debt is UAH 80,000, and the delay lasts 45 days.
- Principal debt: UAH 80,000
- Penalty: 0.1% per day
- Period: 45 days
Estimated penalty: UAH 3,600; debt including penalty: UAH 83,600.
The court may reduce the penalty, and the contract or law may provide another procedure or limit.

Frequently asked questions
Does the calculator have an automatic penalty rate?
No. For contractual late payment interest, enter the daily percentage from the agreement or addendum yourself.
How overdue days are counted?
The calculator includes the first day of delay and the calculation date. If your agreement uses a different rule, adjust the period.
Are partial payments taken into account?
No. If the debtor paid in installments, the periods must be broken down separately by the outstanding debt, or the calculation must be checked manually.
Can the amount be used in a claim?
It can be used as a draft. Before filing, check the agreement, dates, liability limits, and evidence of delay.
Why can a court reduce a penalty?
The court may assess proportionality, losses, and other material circumstances. An excessive calculation does not guarantee recovery of the full amount.
