Court costs

Court expense evidence deadline calculator

Enter the date the civil judgment was issued. For Kyiv cases, the calculator helps quickly check the calendar period, but you must separately prove that the request for costs was made before the court debates ended.

Calculation of the 5-day period

The Civil Procedure Code allows evidence of court costs to be submitted within 5 days after the decision, if the party made the relevant statement before the end of the hearing.

Enter the date of the court decision after which expense evidence is submitted. If only the introductory and operative parts were announced, check the procedural date against the case file.

The calculator does not check whether an application for legal costs was made before closing arguments, whether there is a lawyer’s agreement, proof of payment, an acceptance certificate, a detailed work description, or whether the amount is proportionate to the case.

The brief summary is easy to paste into a message to a lawyer or save for yourself.

What this calculation shows

In a civil case, a party may submit evidence of court costs after the decision, but only within a short procedural window. The general guide is 5 days after the decision, provided that the party stated an intention to seek those costs before the end of the hearing.

The result helps with calendar discipline. Entitlement to compensation itself depends on documents, the parties’ conduct, proportionality of costs, and how the court handled costs in the judgment or an additional decision.

Methodology

Calculation methodology

Deadline calculation methodology

  1. The user enters the date the decision in the civil case was adopted.
  2. The calculator starts counting the period on the next calendar day.
  3. Add 5 calendar days to the reference date.
  4. If the calculated final day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, it moves to Monday.
Example

Calculation example

A court in Kyiv issued a decision on June 8, 2026, and a party announced before closing arguments that it would submit evidence of lawyer’s fees.

  • Decision date: 08.06.2026
  • Period: 5 calendar days

Estimated last day to submit evidence: June 15, 2026, because June 13 falls on a Saturday.

It is separately necessary to prove the prior application, actual expenses, payment or obligation to pay, and proportionality of the amount.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Can expense evidence be submitted without an application before closing arguments?

This is a significant risk. The Civil Procedure Code ties filing evidence of costs within 5 days after the decision to an earlier statement made before the end of the hearing.

Which documents are needed for attorney fees?

Usually, you need the agreement, an advocate’s warrant or power of attorney, invoice, service certificate, payment document or proof of the obligation to pay, and a detailed description of the work performed.

Does the court automatically award the full amount?

No. The other party may dispute the amount, and the court assesses whether the costs are real, necessary, and proportionate to the complexity of the case.

What to do if the court did not decide the costs issue?

Need to check whether an application for an additional decision is available and when it must be filed. This is a separate procedural step and should not be confused with evidence of expenses.

Need to recover attorney’s fees?

Submit an application if you need to check the deadline, evidence package, application before closing arguments, and risk of a reduced amount in a Kyiv civil case.

  • the calculator result can serve as a reference for a conversation
  • documents, deadlines, or contract terms may change the conclusion
  • briefly describe the circumstances in the form if needed
