Calculatorpreliminary calculation
Legal assistance costs
Calculator for allocation of legal assistance costs
Enter the value of one monetary claim, the amount awarded and each party’s professional legal assistance costs already determined or accepted by the court. The tool shows an arithmetic estimate for a civil case in Kyiv or Kyiv Region, but cannot predict the amount the court will finally set.

Proportional calculation for one monetary claim
Each amount is calculated without intermediate percentage rounding, then separately rounded to the nearest kopeck using the “half up” rule.
Calculation scope: one monetary claim in civil proceedings, with no counterclaim, non-property, or mixed claims.
Enter the full monetary amount claimed against which the court compared the amount awarded.
The value may range from 0 up to and including the claim value.
Enter not merely the amount claimed, but the professional legal assistance expenses you use as the base after reviewing the evidence and proportionality.
Use the defendant’s expense amount as the base after checking the evidence and proportionality.
Preliminary allocation
Arithmetic estimatePossible direction: from defendant to claimant
Part ten of Article 141 of the Civil Procedure Code of Ukraine allows the court to order payment of the difference but does not make it automatic.
- Claims granted
- 62,5%
- Claims dismissed
- 37,5%
- In the claimant’s favor before comparison
- 18 750,00 UAH
- In the defendant’s favor before comparison
- 6 000,00 UAH
Claimant’s amount: 30 000,00 UAH × 125 000,00 UAH / 200 000,00 UAH = 18 750,00 UAH
Defendant’s amount: 16 000,00 UAH × 75 000,00 UAH / 200 000,00 UAH = 6 000,00 UAH
Rounding: Both amounts are rounded independently to the nearest kopeck; any difference is determined only after that.
Important: The court checks the evidence, its connection to the case, whether the costs were real, necessary, justified, and proportionate. The amount finally accepted and allocation method may differ from this calculation.
The brief summary is easy to paste into a message to a lawyer or save for yourself.
How proportional allocation works
If a claim is partially granted, other court costs are divided between the parties in proportion to the granted and rejected parts of the claims. For this limited calculation, the claimant’s success is the amount awarded divided by the value of one monetary claim.
First determine separately the portion of the claimant’s accepted costs attributable to granted claims and the portion of the respondent’s accepted costs attributable to dismissed claims. The percentages on screen are explanatory; monetary amounts are calculated directly from the hryvnia values in kopecks.
After independently rounding both amounts, the calculator shows their difference and direction. This is only a possible option under part ten of Article 141 of the Civil Procedure Code: the court may order payment of the difference or use another justified allocation.
Calculation methodology
Calculation methodology
- We check that this is one monetary claim without counterclaims, non-monetary claims, or mixed claims.
- We enter the claim value C and the amount awarded A, where C is greater than zero and A is between 0 and C.
- Use claimant’s P and defendant’s D expenses accepted for allocation after separately checking the evidence and proportionality.
- We calculate the claimant’s amount as P × A / C and the defendant’s amount as D × (C − A) / C without rounding percentages.
- Each amount received is independently rounded to the nearest kopeck using the “half up” rule.
- Subtract the defendant’s rounded amount from the claimant’s rounded amount and show the possible difference and direction, without replacing the court’s decision.
Example of partial success on a claim
In a civil case in Kyiv, the value of one monetary claim is UAH 200,000, and the court awarded UAH 125,000. For allocation, the claimant’s costs are UAH 30,000 and the defendant’s costs are UAH 16,000.
- Claim value C: UAH 200,000
- Awarded A: UAH 125,000
- Accepted claimant costs P: UAH 30,000
- Accepted defendant costs D: UAH 16,000
62.5% granted and 37.5% denied. The claimant’s amount for comparison is UAH 18,750; the defendant’s is UAH 6,000. The possible difference is UAH 12,750 payable by the defendant to the claimant.
This is an arithmetic example. The court may accept a different amount of costs after assessing the evidence, necessity, reasonableness, and proportionality; payment of the difference under part ten of Article 141 of the Civil Procedure Code is not automatic.

Frequently asked questions
Which cases is this calculator suitable for?
For one monetary claim in civil proceedings where the claim value, awarded amount, and both parties’ costs accepted for allocation are known. Counterclaims, non-property claims, and mixed claims require separate analysis.
What amount of legal fees should I enter?
An amount already recognized by the court, or reasonably used as the base after reviewing the contract, work description, invoices, acts, payment, or payment obligation. An amount claimed by the parties is not accepted automatically.
Does a possible difference mean an automatic set-off?
No. Part ten of Article 141 of the Civil Procedure Code states that the court may require the party allocated the greater amount of court costs to pay the difference to the other party. The final allocation method must be reflected in the court decision.
Why might the amount in the court decision differ?
The court considers more than the arithmetic proportion: it also reviews evidence, the link between the costs and the case, necessity, reasonableness, proportionality, and the parties’ procedural conduct.
How does the calculator round kopecks?
The claimant’s and defendant’s amounts are independently rounded to the nearest kopeck using the half-up rule. Only then is any difference calculated.
Is the success percentage rounded before the calculation?
No. The percentage is shown for explanation, but each amount is calculated directly as a share of the claim value without intermediate percentage rounding.
