Estimated time limit in the court ruling

Before proceedings are opened, the period cannot exceed 10 days from service of the ruling; after proceedings are opened, it cannot exceed 5 days. Always use the exact period stated in the ruling.

When deficiencies are identified

For a ruling under Article 185 of the Civil Procedure Code, where the claim is left without movement before proceedings are opened.

Use the date the order was actually received: postal notice, electronic cabinet, receipt, or other proof of service.

The calculator does not check whether all deficiencies were actually remedied, whether the court fee was paid correctly, whether the electronic court account was registered, or whether the claim has already been returned.

What the calculator calculates

If a claim does not meet the requirements for form, content, or attachments, the court may leave it without progress and set a period for correction. Before proceedings are opened, the maximum is 10 days from service of the ruling.

If defects are identified after proceedings have already been opened, the Civil Procedure Code provides a shorter maximum of 5 days from service of the ruling. It is therefore important to choose the right scenario and use the deadline stated in the ruling.

Methodology

Calculation methodology

Deadline calculation methodology

  1. The user selects whether the deficiencies were identified before or after the proceedings were opened.
  2. The user enters the date the order was actually served.
  3. The user enters the number of days specified in the order, within the statutory maximum.
  4. The calculator starts the period on the next calendar day and moves a weekend deadline.
Example

Calculation example

On June 8, 2026, the claimant in Kyiv received an order leaving the claim without movement, and the court allowed 10 days for corrections.

  • Scenario: before proceedings are opened
  • Date the order was served: 08.06.2026
  • Deadline under the ruling: 10 days

Estimated last day to cure deficiencies: June 18, 2026.

If the ruling is issued after proceedings have been opened, the maximum period is different — up to 5 days.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Why are there two time-limit scenarios?

Because the Civil Procedure Code distinguishes the period before and after proceedings are opened. Before opening, the maximum is 10 days; after opening, it is 5 days from service of the ruling.

What happens if the deficiencies are not cured?

Before proceedings are opened, the claim is deemed not filed and may be returned. After proceedings are opened, if defects are not corrected in time, the statement of claim is left without consideration.

Is it enough simply to pay the additional court fee?

Not always. If the ruling identifies several deficiencies, each must be remedied and the court must be given evidence that the requirements were met.

Can I request an extension of the time limit?

A procedural deadline may be extended or renewed only where grounds exist. It is better to prepare the application before the deadline expires and attach evidence of the reasons.
