Preliminary compensation for work on a day off

Enter the ready hourly rate before taxes and the hours worked on a day that was a rest day under your schedule.

Do not enter a monthly salary: the monthly standard working hours matter for that calculation.

Enter 0.01 to 24 hours according to the time sheet; exclude breaks when no work was done.

How the two compensation options work

Article 72 of the Labour Code allows the parties to agree on another rest day or double monetary compensation. Monetary pay is calculated under Article 107 based on hours actually worked.

A day off is determined by the employee’s individual schedule and work arrangement. Saturday or Sunday alone does not establish that it was a day off for an employee working shifts.

During martial law, part six of Article 6 of Law No. 2136-IX disapplies Articles 71 and 73 of the Labour Code, but Article 72 on compensation for work on a day off remains in force. First check whether the day was a day off under your schedule.

Methodology

Calculation methodology

How the preliminary amount was calculated

  1. We check the approved schedule and determine the employee’s actual day off.
  2. Use the confirmed gross hourly rate and actual hours recorded on the timesheet.
  3. For the cash option, multiply the rate by the hours and by two; for agreed time off, multiply the rate by the hours.
  4. We round the full and single amounts to the nearest kopeck; the difference is shown separately.
  5. We compare the result with the payslip and the agreement on a day of rest.
Example

Example of hourly pay

An employee at a Kyiv store had a scheduled day off but worked 8.5 hours under an order. Their gross hourly rate is UAH 150.25.

  • Rate: UAH 150.25/hour
  • Actual: 8.5 hours
  • The day is a rest day under the personal schedule

Double pay: UAH 2,554.25. With an agreed alternative day off: UAH 1,277.13 for the work and another unpaid day off.

These are the full gross amounts for the hours. Any underpayment is determined after checking amounts already accrued and paid.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Is every Sunday a day off for me?

No. With a variable schedule, days off may fall on other days. Check your approved schedule and time sheet.

Can I receive double pay and a rest day at the same time?

Article 72 lets the parties choose compensation by agreement: another rest day or double monetary compensation. Check any additional contractual guarantees separately.

Will another rest day be paid?

Under the alternative-day-off option, hours actually worked are paid at the regular rate, and the day off provided is unpaid.

Can I enter a monthly salary?

No. For salaried work, Article 107 distinguishes work within and beyond the monthly standard. The standard and actual accruals must be checked.

Does double holiday pay apply automatically?

During martial law, Article 73 of the Labour Code does not apply under Article 6 of Law No. 2136-IX. First determine whether the day was a day off under your schedule.

Do the schedule and accruals differ?

For work in Kyiv or the region, we can check the order, rest-day schedule, timesheet, and payslip and prepare a documented demand to the employer.

  • the calculator result can serve as a reference for a conversation
  • documents, deadlines, or contract terms may change the conclusion
  • briefly describe the circumstances in the form if needed
