Appeal review period
Citizens’ appeal response deadline calculator
Enter the registration date of an ordinary citizen’s appeal to the prosecution authority. For appeals in Kyiv and Kyiv region, the tool shows several statutory time estimates but does not choose on behalf of the authority which period applies to your letter.

Check the route and response calendar
First distinguish an ordinary appeal under the Law on Citizens’ Appeals from a crime report, a procedural complaint, and a public information request.
The calculator shows all reference points and does not guarantee a 15-day or any other regime.
Enter the date from the incoming stamp, electronic confirmation or official registration notice. The registration date is day 1.

Preliminary calendar
not yet expiredCalendar rule:the registration date is day 1 for the 5-, 15-, and 45-day reference periods.
The monthly date is an estimate based on adding one calendar month. The law ties the period to the content and complexity of the request, so a response is not guaranteed by that date.

Why does the calculator show several dates
The Law “On Citizens’ Appeals” does not give applicants the right to choose a 15-day period. An appeal that needs no further review must be resolved promptly, but no later than 15 days; the general period is no more than one month. If needed, it may be extended with notice to the applicant, but to no more than 45 days in total.
If the matter is outside the prosecutor’s office’s authority, the appeal is forwarded to the competent body within no more than five days and the applicant is notified. This is not a substantive response and does not mean the next authority has already resolved the matter.
Calculation methodology
Calendar review methodology
- The user classifies the document; special regimes stop the calculation without replacing the deadline with the general rule.
- For an ordinary appeal, enter the confirmed incoming registration date; it cannot be in the future.
- The registration date counts as day 1 for the 5-, 15-, and 45-calendar-day estimates.
- One calendar month is added to the registration date, using the last day of a shorter month when necessary.
- Each date is moved to Monday only when it falls on a Saturday or Sunday; other non-working days require manual review.
Example of an appeal in Kyiv
A routine written complaint about an organizational matter was registered with the prosecutor’s office on August 3, 2026. It is not a crime report, information request, or procedural motion.
- Route: ordinary citizen appeal
- Registration date: 03.08.2026
- Registration date included as day 1
Guidelines: referral to the proper authority — August 7; simple request — August 17; one month — September 3; maximum 45 days — September 16, 2026.
This is not a promise of a response by the selected date: check the prosecutor’s office’s competence, the letter’s contents, and any notice of extension or referral.
What to keep to track the response
- The full text of the appeal with signature, date, and a clearly worded request.
- Incoming reference number, stamp, electronic confirmation, or registration notice.
- Postal receipt, enclosure inventory, and delivery confirmation if the appeal was sent by mail.
- Notice of referral to the proper authority or extension of the review period.
- The prosecution authority’s response and the envelope or technical data confirming the date it was received.

Frequently asked questions
Must the prosecutor’s office respond within 15 days?
Not always. A request that does not require further review is decided within 15 days. The authority assesses its content and complexity; the general guideline is up to one month, or no more than 45 days if an extension is reported.
From what date should the period be counted?
From the confirmed date of registration with the prosecution authority. The mailing date or form completion date may differ from incoming registration, so keep the reference number and acknowledgment.
What does forwarding a request within five days mean?
If the matter is outside the prosecutor’s office’s authority, the appeal must be forwarded to the competent body within five days and the applicant notified. This is a separate step, not a decision on the merits.
Can this calculator be used to calculate an ERDR deadline?
No. Reports of criminal offenses and appeals against failure to enter information in the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations are governed by the Criminal Procedure Code. Choose the relevant stop route and check the procedural guidance.
What to do if 45 days have passed without a response?
Check registration, notice of referral or extension, and the correct addressee. Then you can prepare a follow-up, a complaint about the handling process, or another remedy depending on the subject.
