Calculatorpreliminary calculation
Exchange goods within 14 days
14-day calculator for exchanging or returning goods
If an item from a Kyiv shop does not fit in shape, size, style, color, or another respect, the law primarily provides for an exchange. The calculator shows the 14th calendar date, excluding the purchase date, and stops online-purchase, defect, and exception scenarios for separate review.

Check the deadline and basis for the claim
Answer based on the actual condition of the goods. The result concerns purchases in a regular store under Article 9 only.
Use the date on the payment document; the purchase date is not included in the 14 days.

Preliminary result
Before applying, check the exact product category against the current Cabinet of Ministers list No. 172.
What exactly the calculator calculates
Article 9 gives consumers 14 days, excluding the purchase date, to exchange a non-food product of proper quality that did not suit them, unless the seller announced a longer period.
A refund is not automatically the primary remedy. It becomes one option when an equivalent product is not for sale at the time of exchange.
Calculation methodology
Preliminary review methodology
- Distance purchases, food products, and claims based on a defect are excluded.
- We check non-use, preserved condition, proof of purchase, and the Cabinet of Ministers list No. 172.
- Add 14 calendar days to the purchase date, excluding the purchase date itself.
- Separately shows whether the unprocessed time limit has expired as of the date in Europe/Kyiv.
- The route for a demand depends on whether the seller actually has an equivalent product available.
Example of a purchase in Kyiv
On August 8, 2026, the buyer purchased an unused, good-quality desk lamp from a store in Podil that did not fit.
- Purchase at a regular store
- Purchase date: 08.08.2026
- Product unused; appearance and tags preserved
- Category is not included in List No. 172
First day is 9 August, and the unadjusted 14th day is 22 August 2026. If an equivalent item is available, exchange is the primary remedy.
August 22 falls on a Saturday. The tool does not automatically move the date: it is safer to apply earlier and record the demand in writing.
What to bring to the seller
- Product with all components, seals, tags, and original appearance preserved.
- A cash register receipt, sales receipt, electronic payment document, or other proof of purchase.
- Warranty card, instructions, and serial information, if provided.
- Written application stating the date, describing the goods, and making the initial request for an exchange.
- Photo of the item’s condition and completeness before it is handed to the seller.
- Confirmation of the seller’s response and whether an equivalent item is available.

Frequently asked questions
Is the purchase date included in the 14 days?
No. Article 9 expressly excludes the purchase date. The first day is therefore the next calendar day, and the unadjusted last date is D + 14.
Can I immediately demand a refund?
For a product of proper quality, the primary remedy is exchange. Cancelling the contract and receiving a refund is an option if an equivalent product is not available for exchange at that time.
What to do if the goods were bought online?
Do not treat this result as a ready-to-use deadline. Distance contracts must be checked separately under Article 13, taking into account the receipt date, information provided, and exceptions.
What to do with defective goods?
The defect brings the matter under the separate requirements of Article 8. The warranty, nature of the defect, evidence, and possible expert examination must be checked.
Is a receipt or box required?
The law requires the prescribed proof of purchase and that the product retain its marketable condition, properties, seals, and labels. Packaging is assessed in light of the condition and completeness of the particular product.
Is the 14th day moved from Sunday to Monday?
The calculator does not automatically reach that conclusion. It shows the 14th calendar day; applying the general Civil Code rules and the seller’s working schedule must be checked separately.
