Dismissal notice

Two-week resignation notice calculator

For an employee of a Kyiv company, the important date is when the employer received the resignation notice, not when it was written or sent. Enter the confirmed receipt date: the calculator will show the ordinary end of the two-week notice period and remind you to check the work schedule. The date is not automatically the dismissal date.

Check the two-week notice calendar

Suitable only for an ordinary employee resignation notice under an indefinite-term contract, without a special ground for a different date.

What situation is described in your application?

Use the date on the service mark, delivery confirmation, or other evidence linking receipt to the contents of the application.

Can you confirm receipt and the contents of the application?

Preliminary notice calendar

The automatic two-week calendar is unreliable here

The period is tied to receipt by the employer. The date the notice was written or merely sent is not a reliable starting point.

How the two weeks are counted

Article 38 of the Labour Code allows an employee under an indefinite-term employment contract to terminate it by giving the employer two weeks’ written notice. For a practical calculation, use the proven date an authorized person received the notice.

We do not count the receipt date as day one: the count starts on the next calendar day. Two weeks later falls on the same day of the week. This is a calendar reference, not an automatically determined date for the order or last working day.

Under Article 241-1 of the Labour Code, if a time limit ends on a non-working day, it must be aligned with the nearest working day. Employers have different schedules, so the calculator does not assume that Saturday and Sunday are always days off.

Methodology

Calculation methodology

Preliminary calendar methodology

  1. Exclude a fixed-term contract, a special ground for a different date, and withdrawal of the notice.
  2. Use only the date the employer received the written application, if that fact can be proved.
  3. Count 14 calendar days from the following day, without changing the day of the week.
  4. We show the calendar reference and separately ask you to check a non-working day against the actual schedule.
Example

Example of an application in Kyiv

An employee submitted a voluntary resignation notice to the HR department of a Kyiv company on October 6, 2026, and received an acceptance mark on the copy.

  • Open-ended employment contract.
  • Confirmed receipt date — 6 October 2026.
  • The application does not provide grounds for a different date.

The period starts on 7 October; the ordinary end of two weeks is Tuesday, 20 October 2026.

Before setting the date in an HR order, check the work schedule, the wording of the notice, and any changes in intent.

Documents

What to check against the documents

  • Employment agreement and documents showing its term.
  • A copy of the written application stating the requested date and grounds.
  • Proof of receipt or postal confirmation showing the contents of the mailing.
  • The employer’s work schedule on the calendar day the period expires.
  • Correspondence about changing the date, withdrawing the application, and the HR order.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Count from the date it was written or from the date it was served?

For a reliable count, use the confirmed date the employer received the notice. If you mailed the application, keep a copy, the enclosure list, and proof of delivery; the mailing date does not replace receipt.

Does the day of receipt count toward the two weeks?

No. The first day is the next calendar day. The 14-day calendar estimate falls on the same day of the week as receipt.

What if the last day falls on a Saturday?

Saturday may be a working day under the schedule. If it is non-working for your employer, check the next working day under Article 241-1 of the Labour Code. There is no automatic move to Monday.

Can I ask for an earlier release?

Yes, but the ground and date must be assessed separately. Article 38 covers inability to continue working and employer violations of rules or terms. The wartime rule has separate narrow conditions.

What to do if I changed my mind?

Notify the employer in writing and keep proof. Article 38 also addresses the consequences of continuing work after the period expires and the exception where another employee with a protected right to employment has been invited to take the position.

Need to check the date and proof of service?

A lawyer in Kyiv can compare the application, receipt stamp, work schedule and final settlement before determining the dismissal date.

  • the calculator result can serve as a reference for a conversation
  • documents, deadlines, or contract terms may change the conclusion
